New Tax Credits and Deductions for 2025–2026 Could Reduce Taxes for Millions of Americans

Several new federal tax credits and deductions scheduled for the 2025 and 2026 tax years could provide meaningful tax savings for millions of American taxpayers.
FORT MYERS, Fla. - TelAve -- Fort Myers, FL – Several new federal tax credits and deductions scheduled for the 2025 and 2026 tax years could provide meaningful tax savings for millions of American taxpayers. A newly published guide from National Tax Reports outlines the key tax breaks and how taxpayers may be able to benefit from them when filing future returns.
The updated tax provisions include expanded deductions, new targeted tax relief measures, and inflation adjustments that could lower taxable income for workers, families, and seniors. Understanding these changes may help taxpayers maximize refunds and reduce their overall tax liability.
One of the most notable updates involves a new deduction related to overtime income. Under the provision, certain taxpayers may be able to deduct the portion of overtime wages that exceeds their normal hourly rate. The potential deduction can reach up to $12,500 for single filers and $25,000 for married couples filing jointly, though eligibility phases out at higher income levels.

Another new tax benefit involves interest paid on certain vehicle loans. Taxpayers who finance a new U.S.-assembled personal vehicle may be able to deduct up to $10,000 of the interest paid on the loan. With vehicle prices and borrowing costs remaining elevated, this deduction could provide additional financial relief for buyers.
Seniors may also see additional tax benefits beginning in the 2025 tax year. Individuals age 65 and older may qualify for a temporary $6,000 bonus deduction in addition to the regular standard deduction. Married couples where both spouses qualify could potentially receive up to $12,000 in additional deductions, though the benefit gradually phases out for higher-income households.
Families with children continue to benefit from the Child Tax Credit. For the 2025 and 2026 tax years, the credit can reach up to $2,200 per qualifying child, with a portion of the credit refundable for eligible taxpayers.
In addition to these targeted tax breaks, the IRS has increased the standard deduction for inflation. For the 2026 tax year, the standard deduction is projected to rise to $16,100 for single filers, $24,150 for heads of household, and $32,200 for married couples filing jointly.

According to National Tax Reports, even modest changes to deductions and credits can significantly affect a taxpayer's final refund or balance due. Taxpayers are encouraged to review the full list of available tax benefits and understand the eligibility rules before filing.
