Springfield: Festivities on the Square for Mayor's Tree Lighting start at 6 p.m.

SPRINGFIELD, MO ~ Springfield, MO - The holiday season is just around the corner and the city of Springfield is gearing up for its annual Mayor's Tree Lighting Holiday Show. This highly anticipated event, hosted by Mayor Jeff Schrag and his wife Mary, will take place at 6 p.m. on Saturday, November 22 in Park Central Square.
The City of Springfield, Downtown Community Improvement District, and KY3 are proud to present this festive evening of entertainment and dazzling lights to officially kick off the holiday season. Gold Sponsor Great Southern Bank and supporters CMT Infrastructure Professionals, Hotel Vandivort, and Olsson have also joined in as sponsors for the event. The Hatch Foundation has made it possible for a 48-foot tree to be purchased for the event in 2023.
The festivities will begin with a performance by VOCE Choir followed by Mayor Schrag's annual reading of "Twas the Night Before Christmas." Free books will be provided by the Mayor's Commission on Children and the Jeannette L. Musgrave Foundation.

Santa and Mrs. Claus will make their grand entrance on the SGF Holiday Express shortly after 6 p.m. Families can visit them in their house at the base of the Mayor's Tree from 6:30-8:30 p.m. while enjoying live performances by local musicians and performers.
At approximately 8 p.m., Mayor Schrag will lead a countdown to light up Park Central Square with thousands of sparkling lights on the tree. This moment marks the official start of the holiday season in Springfield.
In addition to these exciting activities, families can also enjoy a variety of free holiday activities throughout downtown Springfield including horse-and-carriage rides courtesy of Downtown CID, ice skating at Brightspeed Ice Park, and shopping at Route 66 Merry Market on Park Central West.
For those who are unable to attend in person, MeTV (channel 33.3) will be broadcasting the Mayor's Tree Lighting Holiday Show live at 7 p.m. The show will also be rebroadcast on KY3 in December.

Volunteers are needed to help make this event a success. Those interested can register on GivePulse to hand out jingle bells, candy canes, Christmas cookies, hot cocoa, and free books during story time, as well as assist with line organization and management for Santa and Mrs. Claus, horse-drawn carriage rides, and the SGF Holiday Express.
