Springfield-Greene County 911 updating mapping and addressing data

TelAve News/10882185
Springfield ~ Springfield-Greene County 911 Emergency Communications has announced that they will be updating their mapping and addressing data used for routing 911 calls. This project is being carried out by contractor Spatial Data Research Inc. (SDR).

The use of Geographic Information System (GIS) technology in emergency services mapping has proven to be crucial in helping 911 telecommunicators accurately locate and respond to emergency calls. These specialized digital maps contain vital information such as jurisdictional boundaries, road names, and specific agency details.

According to SDR, the collection and verification of addressing information will begin this month. The company's field vehicles, clearly marked with white signs and "911 Mapping" in red letters, will be driving through Greene County cities, towns, and recreational areas during daylight hours.

During the field work, technicians will stop in front of structures to observe, verify, and document the posted address. However, they will not knock on doors or conduct interviews with residents. In cases where no address is posted or legible, the technician will mark the record for further investigation. They may also leave the vehicle to verify apartment units' layout in buildings but will not trespass on private property.

The project is expected to be completed by the end of May 2026. This update in mapping and addressing data is crucial in ensuring efficient and accurate responses to emergency calls in Springfield-Greene County.
