Springfield: Replacement of Scenic Avenue Bridge over Wilson's Creek to begin Jan. 20
TelAve News/10885116
~ Springfield, MO- The Scenic Avenue Bridge over Wilson's Creek will be closing for construction on Tuesday, Jan. 20. The bridge, located between Sunshine Street and Bennett Street, will undergo replacement and improvements to enhance safety and stormwater management.
The project, which is estimated to cost $3.1 million, will replace the aging bridge structure and add a 10-foot multi-use path on the west side and a 5-foot sidewalk on the east side. These additions will provide safer options for pedestrians and cyclists while also creating a new connection to the Wilson's Creek Greenway trail.
According to Public Works Project Manager Leree Reese, the current Scenic Bridge is reaching the end of its lifespan. The new design not only ensures a safer and longer-lasting structure but also improves connectivity for those walking and biking in the city.

The closure of the Scenic Avenue Bridge is expected to last approximately four months while construction takes place. During this time, traffic detours will be in place directing vehicles to use Sunshine Street, Kansas Expressway, and Bennett Street as alternate routes.
The project is being funded through the City's 1/4-cent Capital Improvement Sales Tax and 1/8-cent Transportation Sales Tax. It was designed by Olsson and will be constructed by Hartman and Company.
Residents are encouraged to visit the project webpage for updates on the construction progress. The completion of this project is anticipated in summer 2026.
The City of Springfield thanks everyone for their patience as they work towards improving safety and accessibility in the community through this bridge replacement project.
