State Farm® WNBA Friday Night Spotlight on ION to tip off May 16 with the most regular-season games on TV

ATLANTA, May 6, 2025 ~ Scripps Sports, a division of the media conglomerate Scripps, has announced its plans for the 2025 WNBA season. The company's network, ION, will be setting a new standard for weekly coverage of the league by broadcasting a total of 50 regular season games as part of its State Farm® WNBA Friday Night Spotlight series.

The State Farm® WNBA Friday Night Spotlight will feature exciting doubleheaders from across the league every Friday night during the regular season. ION, known for being one of the most-watched networks on television, is available on various platforms including pay TV, connected TV, free ad-supported streaming platforms, and over-the-air in over 128 million homes.

"We are proud to be the home for women's sports and lead the way in the number of regular season WNBA games on television," said Brian Lawlor, president of Scripps Sports. "With our nationwide multiplatform audience reach, we are excited to capture the energy and buzz surrounding the WNBA this season."

In-Studio Coverage

The WNBA on ION Studio Show will return in 2025 as the first weekly game broadcast studio show dedicated to the WNBA. The show will include pre-game shows featuring player interviews, highlights from previous games, spotlights on upcoming matchups on ION, and in-depth feature stories from around the league. Halftime shows will provide analysis and insights from studio host Larry Smith and analysts Autumn Johnson and Meghan McKeown. Wrap-up/preview shows will also be featured between games. The studio team is based in Atlanta and includes award-winning news and sports anchor Larry Smith as host, alongside analysts Autumn Johnson and Meghan McKeown. Jay Hoover serves as studio show producer with Nicole Denne as executive producer.

On-Court Action

The new WNBA season kicks off on May 16th on ION with a national doubleheader featuring two debuts. The first game will showcase the regular season debut of Paige Bueckers, the No.1 overall draft pick for the Dallas Wings, as they take on the Minnesota Lynx. The second game will feature the inaugural game of the league's newest franchise, the Golden State Valkyries, as they face off against the Los Angeles Sparks.

Other highlights from the WNBA on ION schedule include:

- A'ja Wilson and the Las Vegas Aces hosting Kelsey Plum and the Los Angeles Sparks in Plum's return to Vegas since being traded to L.A. (May 30)

- Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever facing off against Paige Bueckers and the Dallas Wings in a showdown of recent No.1 draft picks (June 27)

- The WNBA going international as Brittney Griner and her Atlanta Dream take on Skylar Diggins, Nneka Ogwumike, and the Seattle Storm in Vancouver for the first regular season game outside of the United States (Aug. 15)

- Angel Reese and Caitlin Clark going head-to-head as Reese's Chicago Sky takes on Clark's Indiana Fever (Sept. 5)
