Survey Finds UK Small Business Owners Rate Their Own Websites Just 4 Out of 10 for Confidence
TelAve News/10906301
ASCOT, U.K. - TelAve -- Ascot-based web design studio Lens Digital found that while most business owners had reviewed their site within the last six months, few were confident it was actually generating business - prompting the launch of a low-cost website review service.
ASCOT, England – 14th September, 2026 - Lens Digital, a WordPress design studio based in Ascot, Berkshire, has published early findings from a survey of small business owners examining how closely they monitor and maintain their own websites. The results point to a gap between how often business owners check their site and how confident they feel about what it's actually achieving for them.
The survey, distributed among UK small business owners asked respondents when they last critically reviewed their website, whether they understood its technical performance, and how confident they were that it was actively generating business rather than simply existing online. Respondents rated their confidence on a scale of one to ten, with results returning an average score of just 4 out of 10.
Notably, half of respondents said they had reviewed their website within the last six months, and the majority had updated their homepage content within the past year - yet confidence in the site's actual commercial performance remained low. A majority of respondents also said they were assuming their website performed well on mobile devices rather than knowing this to be the case, and most were not confident they would learn their website was offline before a customer told them.

"What stood out wasn't that people are ignoring their websites — it's that they're looking at them and still not sure what they're looking at," said Andrew Spiers, founder of Lens Digital. "Most business owners are experts in their own field, not in web design, so it's genuinely difficult to know whether something bothering you about your site is a five-minute fix or a much bigger problem."
In response to the findings, Lens Digital has launched Website Power Hour, a fixed-price, one-hour consultation in which a web designer reviews a business's existing website with the owner and provides a prioritised list of recommended improvements. The service is aimed specifically at business owners who manage their own websites and want an independent, jargon-free assessment without committing to a larger project.
