AUSTIN ~ This week, Governor Greg Abbott announced his selection of multiple qualified candidates to serve on behalf of Texans. These appointments include a new District Attorney, several judges, and members of various advisory councils and boards.

Clay Carr has been appointed as the District Attorney for the 84th Judicial District in Hansford and Hutchinson Counties. His term will begin on September 1, 2026 and will expire on December 31, 2028. Carr's appointment was made with the intention that he will serve until his successor is duly elected and qualified.

In Williamson County, Jason Bramow has been selected by Governor Abbott to serve as Judge of the 425th Judicial District Court. His term will also begin on September 1, 2026 and expire on December 31, 2028. Like Carr's appointment, Bramow's is also subject to being succeeded by a duly elected and qualified individual.

Cindy Bridges has been appointed as Judge of the 490th Judicial District Court in Brazoria County. Her term will begin on September 1, 2026 and expire on December 31, 2028. As with the other judicial appointments made by Governor Abbott this week, Bridges' successor will be determined through election.

Leonard Peters has been chosen by Governor Abbott to serve as Judge of the 492nd Judicial District Court in Colorado and Lavaca Counties. His term will begin on September 1, 2026 and expire on December 31, 2028. Peters' successor will be determined through election.

Jacqueline Franklin has been appointed as Judge of the 513th Judicial District Court in Harris County. Her term will begin on September 1, 2026 and expire on December 31, 2028. As with all judicial appointments made this week by Governor Abbott, Franklin's successor will be determined through election.

Michael Landrum has been selected by Governor Abbott to serve as Judge of the 514th Judicial District Court in Harris County. His term will begin on September 1, 2026 and expire on December 31, 2028. Landrum's successor will be determined through election.

Shawn Nicole Thierry has been appointed as Judge of the 515th Judicial District Court in Harris County. Her term will begin on September 1, 2026 and expire on December 31, 2028. As with all judicial appointments made this week by Governor Abbott, Thierry's successor will be determined through election.

Donna Hansen has been chosen by Governor Abbott to serve as Judge of the 523rd Judicial District Court in Montgomery County. Her term will begin on September 1, 2026 and expire on December 31, 2028. Hansen's successor will be determined through election.

In addition to these judicial appointments, Governor Abbott also made several appointments to various boards and councils. Misti Nielsen has been appointed to the Texas State Board of Examiners of Marriage and Family Therapists for a term set to expire on February 1, 2029. This board is responsible for licensing and regulating marriage and family therapists in Texas.

Jay Bodnar has been selected by Governor Abbott to serve on the Private Sector Advisory Council for an indefinite term at the pleasure of the Governor. The council advises the Governor on homeland security issues that are pertinent to the private sector.

Tammie Nielsen has been appointed by Governor Abbott to serve on the State Board of Education for District 4 until December 31, 2026 or until her successor is duly elected and qualified.

Finally, Carlos Y. Benavides IV and Leslie Kay Ritchie have been reappointed while Laura Figueroa has been newly appointed by Governor Abbott to serve on the Specialty Courts Advisory Council until February 1,2031. This council evaluates applications for grant funding for specialty courts and makes recommendations to the criminal justice division regarding best practices.

These appointments made by Governor Abbott demonstrate his commitment to selecting qualified individuals to serve on behalf of Texans in various capacities. With these new appointments, the state can continue to move forward with effective leadership and representation.
