Texas: Governor Abbott Announces More Than $8 Million Electric Reliability Grant For Panhandle and South Plains
TelAve News/10902991
~ In a recent announcement, Governor Greg Abbott revealed that the Texas Energy Fund (TxEF) has granted over $8 million to the Bailey County Electric Cooperative Association in order to enhance electric reliability for its members in the Texas Panhandle and South Plains regions. This grant will support various projects aimed at improving electric transmission poles, strengthening against wind-related line damage, and overall boosting reliability.
Governor Abbott emphasized the importance of ensuring reliable and affordable power for all Texans, stating, "Texas works tirelessly to improve electric reliability and deliver affordable power to every corner of the state." He believes that this grant will provide critical funding for projects that will not only strengthen the electrical infrastructure but also protect Texas families for generations to come.
The Public Utility Commission of Texas (PUCT) Chairman Thomas Gleeson also expressed his support for this grant program, stating that it is crucial in protecting Texans across the state. He reassured residents that the PUCT is working closely with local power providers to make their systems stronger, more resilient, and more reliable.

The projects funded by this grant will benefit customers in Bailey County Electric Cooperative Association's service territory, which includes parts of Bailey, Castro, Cochran, Lamb, and Parmer Counties. The main project involves upgrading equipment on 2,000 poles to better withstand high winds and prevent power lines from colliding. This will ultimately reduce outages and improve overall reliability. The second project focuses on upgrading approximately two miles of transmission line to further enhance reliability and decrease outage restoration times while also making repairs safer and more efficient.
The PUCT administers the TxEF Outside ERCOT Grant Program which aims to improve electric reliability and resiliency for Texans served by electric utilities outside of the ERCOT region. For more information on this program and others offered by TxEF, interested parties can visit the PUCT's website. With these efforts in place, Governor Abbott hopes to continue providing reliable electricity for all Texans.
