TelAve News/10903083
~ In a major announcement today, Governor Greg Abbott revealed that SpaceX will be constructing a vertically integrated semiconductor fabrication plant in Grimes County. This project, known as Terafab, is estimated to bring in a capital investment of over $16.8 billion and create 3,000 new jobs in the first phase alone. To support this endeavor, the state has extended a Texas Enterprise Fund (TEF) grant of $30 million to SpaceX. Additionally, the facility has been designated as a qualified project under the Texas Jobs, Energy, Technology, and Innovation (JETI) program.

Governor Abbott expressed his excitement for this expansion of SpaceX's investment in Texas, stating that "Texas is where big ideas grow even bigger." He congratulated the company on their decision to build the first-of-its-kind Terafab facility in the state and highlighted its potential to accelerate chip production at an unprecedented scale. He also emphasized the positive impact this project will have on job creation and economic opportunities for generations of Texans.

The decision to select Texas for this project was based on several factors including the state's business-friendly climate, skilled workforce, robust infrastructure, and logistical advantages. With its global headquarters already located in Texas and a significant advanced manufacturing presence, SpaceX saw great potential for growth in the Lone Star State. The 100-million-square-foot Terafab facility will consolidate all aspects of semiconductor production under one roof and create various job opportunities such as engineers, technicians, and plant operators.
