Texas: Governor Abbott Appoints Peters To 492nd Judicial District In Colorado And Lavaca Counties

~ Governor Greg Abbott has recently announced the appointment of Leonard Peters as the new Judge of the 492nd Judicial District Court in Colorado and Lavaca Counties. This appointment will be effective from September 1, 2026, until December 31, 2028, or until a successor is elected and qualified.

Peters, a resident of Columbus, brings a wealth of experience to his new role. He currently serves as a municipal judge for the City of Columbus and is also an attorney at Peters and Peters Law Firm, PLLC. He is a member of both the State Bar of Texas and the Colorado County Bar Association.

In addition to his legal career, Peters is actively involved in his community. He has served as president of the Columbus Chamber of Commerce and is currently an attorney for the Colorado County Habitat for Humanity. He also holds a trustee position at the First Baptist Church of Columbus.

Peters holds an impressive educational background, having received a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice and a Juris Doctor from the University of Houston. He also obtained his peace officer's license from the Texas A&M Police Academy. With his extensive qualifications and experience, Peters is well-equipped to serve as Judge for the 492nd Judicial District Court.
