Texas: Governor Abbott Deploys Firefighting Resources To Assist California Wildfire Response Efforts
TelAve News/10851040
~ In response to the devastating wildfires in California, Governor Greg Abbott has directed the Texas Division of Emergency Management (TDEM) and Texas A&M Forest Service to provide assistance. This comes after a request from CAL FIRE through the California Office of Emergency Services.
Governor Abbott expressed his condolences to the Los Angeles community and acknowledged the destructive nature of wildfires. He stated that Texans understand the impact of these disasters and emphasized the importance of coming together during times of crisis. As a result, he has instructed TDEM to deploy firefighters, fire engines, and firefighting equipment to aid in battling the ongoing wildfires.
The deployment will include over 135 personnel from TDEM, Texas A&M Forest Service, Texas Intrastate Fire Mutual Aid System, and Texas Emergency Medical Task Force. In addition, more than 45 fire engines, ambulances, command vehicles, and equipment will also be sent to assist in the southern part of California where the fires are most severe.

This deployment is made possible through the Emergency Management Assistance Compact (EMAC), a state-to-state mutual aid system that allows for resources to be shared during disasters or emergencies. EMAC members can provide assistance from all disciplines and are protected while on deployment. They are also eligible for reimbursement for any related costs.
Governor Abbott's decision to send aid to California demonstrates solidarity among states during times of crisis. The brave firefighters and first responders who have answered this call for help are commended for their bravery and selflessness. The Governor and his wife Cecilia offer their prayers for those who have lost their lives or been affected by these wildfires, as well as for CAL FIRE, Los Angeles Fire Department, and the entire state of California during this difficult time.
