Texas: Governor Abbott Directs HHSC To Investigate Birth Tourism Packages To Foreign Nationals
TelAve News/10900668
~ In a recent press release, Governor Greg Abbott has directed the Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) to launch an immediate and thorough investigation into Mission Regional Medical Center. The hospital has been accused of targeting foreign nationals with "birth packages in South Texas" in order to profit from birth tourism, a practice that grants U.S. citizenship to children born in the country.
According to reports, thousands of foreign travelers come to the United States under false pretenses in order to give birth and secure citizenship for their children. Governor Abbott has condemned this illegal practice, stating that it exploits the hospitality that the United States and Texas offer to millions of foreign travelers each year.
In his statement, Governor Abbott emphasized his commitment to protecting the integrity of American citizenship and upholding the rule of law. He also expressed concern over the potential exploitation of Texas institutions by those seeking to circumvent legal immigration processes.

Under this directive, HHSC is required to immediately refer any violations found during their investigation to the Attorney General for civil enforcement and to the appropriate District or County Attorney for criminal prosecution. The commission will also impose administrative sanctions and penalties on Mission Regional Medical Center.
Governor Abbott's letter further states that Texas will not tolerate the exploitation of its healthcare system or its citizenship laws. He vows to fight against birth tourism and hold accountable any hospital or facility found guilty of profiting from it.
This action by Governor Abbott reflects his ongoing dedication to protecting American citizenship and ensuring that Texas institutions are not taken advantage of by those seeking illegal means of obtaining it. The full letter from Governor Abbott can be read on his official website.
