Texas: Governor Abbott Reappoints Lewis As Sabine River Compact Administration Commissioner

~ In a recent announcement, Governor Greg Abbott has reappointed Michael H. "Mike" Lewis as the Sabine River Compact Administration Commissioner. Lewis, who currently serves in this role, will continue to hold the position until July 12, 2031.

As a Commissioner, Lewis is responsible for overseeing the implementation of the Sabine River Compact between Texas, Louisiana, and the United States. This agreement outlines the management and use of water resources in the Sabine River Basin.

Lewis brings a wealth of experience to his role as Commissioner. He currently serves as an investigator with the Newton County District Attorney and is also a board member on the Jasper/Newton County Health Board. In addition, he is a member of both the Newton County Investment Committee and Bid Review Committee.

Outside of his professional commitments, Lewis is actively involved in his community. He serves as a county committee member for the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo and is also a member of Rainbow Masonic Lodge #735.

Lewis' dedication to public service extends beyond his local community. He served in the U.S. Naval Reserves from 1970 to 1971 and received an honorable discharge. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Sam Houston State University.

With his extensive experience and commitment to public service, Lewis is well-equipped to continue serving as Sabine River Compact Administration Commissioner for years to come.
