Texas: Governor Abbott Signs Major Disaster Declaration After Severe Weather and Flooding
TelAve News/10901615
~ Governor Greg Abbott of Texas has requested a Presidential Disaster Declaration to aid in the state's response and recovery efforts following severe weather and flooding that has affected communities across the state. The Governor made this request while visiting Uvalde County, where he received updates on flood conditions, surveyed damage, and met with state and local officials coordinating the response.
During his visit, Governor Abbott expressed his admiration for the resilience of the Uvalde community, stating, "The Uvalde Community was hit very hard, but its residents are strong and resilient." He also emphasized the need for federal assistance in rebuilding the region and requested a major disaster declaration for 28 counties. He added that more counties may be added to the list as needed.
The Governor's first stop in Uvalde was at the SSGT Willie de Leon Civic Center, where he received a briefing on current flood conditions, response operations, and recovery efforts. He also took the time to meet with first responders and emergency personnel to thank them for their swift and effective actions in saving lives.

According to Governor Abbott, over 2,700 personnel and 1,500 vehicles, aircrafts, and other resources have been deployed to assist communities across Texas since response efforts began. So far, more than 270 people have been rescued. However, he warned that severe weather and additional flooding may continue to impact the state. He urged Texans in Uvalde, Zavala, Dimmit, Sutton, and Crockett counties to remain vigilant about weather conditions.
The Governor was accompanied by Representative Don McLaughlin, Texas Division of Emergency Management Chief Nim Kidd, Uvalde County Commissioner Roy Kothmann, as well as other state, local, and federal emergency management officials during his visit.
State agencies are working diligently to distribute resources and information to affected communities. Governor Abbott is urging Texans to stay informed about weather updates by monitoring local news outlets. He also encourages them to make an emergency plan, listen to emergency officials, and to "Turn Around, Don't Drown." Texans can find resources and report any flood damage at Disaster.Texas.Gov.
More photos of the Governor's visit will be made available on the official website.
