Texas: Governor Abbott Urges Texans To Report Winter Weather Damages
TelAve News/10851006
~ As Texas continues to recover from the severe winter weather that hit the state this week, Governor Greg Abbott is urging residents to report any property damages caused by ice, snow, and excessive rainfall. The governor is encouraging Texans to utilize the Texas Division of Emergency Management's online damage assessment tool to document and report any damages sustained.
In a statement released today, Governor Abbott emphasized the state's commitment to providing all available resources to those impacted by the winter weather. He also stressed the importance of reporting damages through the iSTAT survey in order to determine if Texas qualifies for federal disaster assistance.
The Individual State of Texas Assessment Tool (iSTAT) survey can be accessed in both English and Spanish on damage.tdem.texas.gov. By filling out this survey, residents provide crucial information that will help emergency management teams assess the severity and scale of damages. This data will also aid in determining eligibility for federal disaster relief.
It is important to note that using the iSTAT tool is voluntary and does not replace reporting damages to insurance providers. Additionally, it does not guarantee disaster relief assistance. Resources, including video tutorials on how to complete the survey, are available on damage.tdem.texas.gov.

The Texas State Operations Center remains activated at Level II (Escalated Response) as state officials continue to work with local authorities on response and recovery efforts. Efforts are also being made with utility regulators to quickly restore power for those impacted by localized outages.
While most of the ice and snow has moved out of the state, hazardous road conditions may still persist in some areas, particularly on bridges and overpasses. Texans are advised to stay informed about weather conditions and follow instructions from local officials. The Texas Disaster Portal at tdem.texas.gov provides resources such as warming center information and a map of licensed plumbers.
Governor Abbott has taken several actions in response to the winter weather crisis, including activating state emergency response resources ahead of potential flooding in Southeast Texas on January 9. He has also provided updates on the state's ongoing emergency response efforts and increased the readiness level of the State Emergency Operations Center to assist local officials.
As Texans work together to recover from this winter weather, Governor Abbott urges everyone to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions to stay safe. By reporting damages through the iSTAT survey, residents can help ensure that all Texans have the support and resources they need to move forward from this natural disaster.
