"Thriving #ThroughThePain" Centers Sickle Cell Warriors As The Authors Of Their Own Stories

Five patient-led short films reframe sickle cell disease around resilience, hope, and life beyond the pain

BOSTON - TelAve -- September is Sickle Cell Awareness Month

#ThroughThePain Inc. announces Thriving #ThroughThePain, a warrior-led short-form series created in partnership with Pfizer. Featuring five individuals living with sickle cell disease, the series gives each storyteller the space to share their experiences in their own voice and on their own terms.

Too often, stories about sickle cell disease focus almost exclusively on pain, crisis, and survival.

Thriving #ThroughThePain expands that narrative. Through five intimate visual portraits, the series explores the lives of people with SCD who are also creators, advocates, entrepreneurs, artists, leaders, and community builders.

"The pain is real, but it is not the whole story."

said Dima Hendricks, founder of #ThroughThePain Inc. and executive producer of the series.

"People living with sickle cell disease deserve to be seen in the fullness of who we are. This series gives each storyteller the space to define their own identity, share their truth, and show what it means to thrive while living with SCD."

The series takes a distinctive "breaking the fourth wall" approach, weaving behind-the-scenes moments and reflections from both the storytellers and filmmakers into each portrait. By revealing elements of the creative process, Thriving #ThroughThePain invites audiences into a more transparent, personal, and authentic form of health storytelling.

The featured storytellers are:

DeVonna Brockman, advocate and digital creator

Amy Cohen, marathon trailblazer and entrepreneur

Dima Hendricks, advocate, author, and founder of #ThroughThePain Inc.

Jared "J" Snow, award-winning filmmaker and comedian

DeMitrious Wyant, men's health advocate and recording artist

Each participant brings a distinct perspective to the series, challenging stereotypes and demonstrating that there is no single story of life with sickle cell disease. Thriving #ThroughThePain was created to increase visibility and promote more accurate and human representations of SCD and encourage healthcare organizations, community partners, advocates,

educators, and allies to look beyond the diagnosis and recognize the whole person.

The series will be released beginning September 1st across social media platforms and the #ThroughThePain website.
