With new round of severe fire weather on the way, California continues historic deployment
TelAve News/10851069
~ As California braces for another round of severe fire weather, Governor Gavin Newsom has announced that the state is continuing its historic deployment of resources to Southern California. This comes as the ongoing firefight in Los Angeles continues to rage on, with new assets being added to the effort.
The governor's office released a statement on Saturday, stating that additional resources will be joining the fight and prepositioning at strategic locations throughout Southern California in preparation for any new fire starts. This brings the total number of personnel to over 14,000, including more than 1,700 fire engines, water tenders, aircraft and bulldozers.
Among these resources are 1,680 California National Guard servicemembers, after Governor Newsom doubled the number of deployed earlier today. The governor emphasized the state's all-in response to the fires and urged Californians to stay informed and ready.
"We're ready for another round of severe fire weather," said Governor Newsom. "Hour by hour, we are surging more people and more firefighting equipment to Southern California."
This latest surge in resources adds to the already comprehensive response effort that includes firefighters, guard service members, highway patrol officers and transportation teams. In addition, there are over 1,700 pieces of firefighting apparatus aiding in putting out the fires.

Earlier this week, Governor Newsom declared a state of emergency and issued two executive orders to support communities affected by the ongoing fires. President Biden also quickly approved a Presidential Major Disaster Declaration at the governor's request. The state has also received continued federal assistance to combat multiple fires in Los Angeles County.
For those impacted by the wildfires in Los Angeles County, help is available through various channels. Californians can visit CA.gov/LAfires for information and resources from state, local and federal government agencies. They can also apply for disaster assistance online at DisasterAssistance.gov or by calling 800-621-3362.
In addition, Governor Newsom welcomed 72 highly skilled firefighters and emergency personnel from Mexico to augment the firefighting efforts. The state is also providing tax relief for those affected by the fires, offering a postponement on filing 2024 tax returns and making tax payments that would have been due between January 7 and October 15, 2025.
As the fires continue to ravage parts of Southern California, Governor Newsom remains committed to providing all necessary resources to combat them. With the support of local, state, and federal agencies, Californians can rest assured that every effort is being made to protect their communities and keep them safe.
