This state legislation, introduced by Representative Bud L. According to data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), more than 90% of people with SCD in the United States are Black or Latino. These individuals have an average life expectancy that is approximately 20 years shorter than that of the general population.

By passing this resolution in support of H.1347, the Council recognizes the pressing need for increased public health education, early diagnosis, preventative care, and community support for those living with SCD. The resolution reflects the Council's dedication to promoting health equity and improving quality of life for those impacted by this debilitating disease.
