Byron A. Love Explores AI, Equity, and Human Dignity in Digital Righteousness

New Book Examines How Artificial Intelligence Is Reshaping Society and Why Underserved Communities Must Help Shape Its Future
WASHINGTON - TelAve -- Artificial intelligence is transforming nearly every aspect of modern life—from healthcare and education to employment, finance, and public services. As AI systems become increasingly influential, author Byron A. Love asks a timely question in his new book, Digital Righteousness: Artificial Intelligence, the Digital Divide, and the African Diaspora: Who will AI serve—and who will shape its future?
Conversations about AI are no longer limited to technology companies and research laboratories. Policymakers, educators, business leaders, civil rights advocates, and faith communities are increasingly debating how society should govern emerging technologies. Recent discussions, including Pope Leo XIV's encyclical Magnifica Humanitas, reflect growing international concern that technological progress must be guided by ethical principles that uphold human dignity.

While approaching the issue from different perspectives, both Digital Righteousness and Magnifica Humanitas emphasize a common principle: technology should serve humanity—not the other way around.
Drawing on more than thirty-five years of leadership in information technology, cybersecurity, governance, and artificial intelligence, Love explores both the opportunities and the challenges presented by AI. The book highlights ways AI can improve healthcare, education, entrepreneurship, and workforce development while also addressing algorithmic bias, digital exclusion, facial recognition inaccuracies, and predictive policing systems that can disproportionately affect historically marginalized communities.
"I wrote Digital Righteousness because fear leaves people vulnerable," Love said. "When confronted with artificial intelligence, many instinctively want to flee, freeze, or fight. But we cannot escape AI—it is reshaping our workplaces, schools, healthcare systems, and financial institutions. Ignoring it only increases our risk. Digital Righteousness is a call to replace fear with knowledge, resilience, and action. My goal is to help Black communities understand AI, prepare for its opportunities and risks, and defend themselves against unjust and biased AI systems."
