CHICAGO ~ The City of Chicago is taking a step towards providing equitable access to technology and computer science education for its youth. On December 9th, 2023, the Department of Family and Support Services will be hosting High-Tech CHI, a day-long event focused on exposing K-14 students to new and innovative technology. The event is part of the Computer Science Education Week (CSEdWeek) celebrations taking place across the globe this December and will be hosted by Presenting Sponsor Google at their Chicago office.

Mayor Brandon Johnson expressed his enthusiasm for the event, saying "Chicago's young people are Chicago's future. Exposure to opportunity is fundamental to equity in the technology space and events like High Tech CHI familiarize our youth with increasing opportunities available to them as Chicago continues to rise as a hub for computer science, technology, and innovation."

The CSEdWeek is an annual call to action that encourages students to learn computer science, advocate for equity, and celebrate the contributions of students, teachers, and partners to the field. Organizations from around the world contribute by organizing CS experiences for youth and families to participate in. Brandie Knazze, Commissioner of the Department of Family and Support Services said "The Chicago Department of Family and Support Services is incredibly pleased to partner with CS for Success and Discovery Partners Institute to host this event, which is designed to engage our youth and get them excited about the technology field. The computer science space is rapidly growing and changing, and young people are the future tech leaders we need to invent new solutions and solve complex problems."
