Colorado: Governor Polis Makes Appointments in the 6th Judicial District

DENVER ~ In a move to fill vacancies in the 6th Judicial District, Governor Polis has appointed two new judges. Kelly J. Tompkins has been appointed to the San Juan County Court, while Douglas J. Reynolds will take on the role of judge in La Plata County.
Ms. Tompkins, who has been practicing law since 2012, brings a wealth of experience to her new position. She is currently Of Counsel at Ross & Matthews, PC and specializes in civil matters. Prior to this, she held positions at various law firms including Parker, LLP and Soraya Joslin, PC.
Her educational background includes a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Texas at Arlington and a Juris Doctor degree from the University of Tulsa College of Law.
Meanwhile, Mr. Reynolds has been practicing law for over two decades and is currently a Partner at The Reynolds Law Group. His practice focuses on civil and real estate matters. He previously held positions at Bopp Reynolds Law Group and Goldman, Robbins & Nicholson, PC.

Mr. Reynolds received his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Colorado Denver and his Juris Doctor degree from Duke University School of Law.
These appointments come as a result of two vacancies in the 6th Judicial District Court. The first was created by the appointment of Honorable Anthony D. Edwards to the Archuleta County Court, effective immediately. The second vacancy was created by Honorable R. Reid Stewart's appointment to the 6th Judicial District Court, which will take effect on January 2nd, 2026.
Governor Polis expressed confidence in both appointees and believes they will serve their respective counties with integrity and fairness. Their appointments have been met with positive reactions from their colleagues in the legal community as well as local officials in San Juan and La Plata counties.
