Colorado Springs Fire Department firefighter injured in traffic crash
TelAve News/10883186
~ On Thursday morning, a traffic accident on Interstate 25 near the Circle Drive exit in Colorado Springs resulted in injuries and a reminder from the Colorado Springs Fire Department (CSFD) to drive with caution around emergency vehicles.
At 9 a.m., CSFD and their partners at the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) were dispatched to the scene. Upon arrival at 9:03 a.m., CSFD Engine 4 found a car accident with injuries. While providing care to those involved, a separate vehicle struck one of the firefighters. The injured firefighter was quickly transported to a nearby hospital and is currently in stable condition with multiple injuries.
Additional CSFD units were called to the scene to take over patient care for those involved in the initial accident. All information regarding the incident will be provided by CSPD and can be found on their Blotter.

In light of this incident, CSFD is reminding drivers to exercise extreme caution when driving, especially during winter conditions and when emergency vehicles are present. They have provided some tips on how to keep first responders and road crews safe:
- If possible, move into another lane when emergency vehicles are present to create a buffer zone between your car and the emergency vehicles.
- When approaching a stopped emergency vehicle with flashing lights, decrease your speed.
- Stay alert and avoid distractions while driving.
- During snowstorms or other inclement weather, increase your following distance and always travel with caution as roads may still be icy.
CSFD urges all drivers to follow these safety measures not only for their own well-being but also for the safety of first responders who put their lives on the line every day. Let's all do our part in keeping our roads safe for everyone.
