Florida: Governor Ron DeSantis Appoints Five to the Board of Nursing

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. ~ TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Governor Ron DeSantis has announced the appointment of Patricia Schafer and the reappointment of Deborah Becker, Christine Mueller, Fidelia "Fe" Roster, and Jennifer Wages to the Board of Nursing.

Schafer, a Nurse Manager at the Women's Pregnancy Center of Ocala, has been actively involved in her community. She was a strong advocate for SB 1690 during the 2025 Legislative Session, which allows hospitals, EMS stations, or fire stations to use infant safety devices to accept surrendered infants. Schafer is also a Licensed Registered Nurse through the Florida Department of Health.

Deborah Becker, currently serving as the Health Sciences Simulation Coordinator at the College of Central Florida, has been reappointed to the Board. She is a member of various nursing organizations such as the American Nurses Association and the National League of Nursing. Becker holds a bachelor's degree in nursing and a master's degree in nursing education from Indiana University.

Christine Mueller, DNP, has been appointed as Chief Nurse Administrator at Keiser University. She is an active member of the American Association of Critical Care Nursing and is also a veteran of the United States Army. Mueller holds a bachelor's degree in nursing from Barry University, a master's degree in nursing from Florida Atlantic University, and a doctorate in nursing practice from Keiser University.

Fidelia "Fe" Roster, DNP, has been appointed as Vice President and Chief Care Continuum Officer at Halifax Health. She is an active member of various nursing organizations including the American Association of Critical Care Nurses and the Florida Organization of Nurse Leaders. Roster also serves on several boards such as Heart of Volusia Board of Directors and Volusia Flagler Advance Practice Nurse Council. She holds a bachelor's degree in nursing from St. Mary of Plains College, a master's degree in nursing from University of Phoenix, and a doctorate in nursing practice from University of Central Florida.

Jennifer Wages, the Director of Health Information Management Services for Encompass Health of Panama City, has also been appointed to the Board. She is a member of the American Society for Health Care and holds a Licensed Practical Nurse Certification from Haney Vocational School. Wages also has a bachelor's degree in healthcare administration from Southern New Hampshire University.

These appointments are subject to confirmation by the Florida Senate. The Board of Nursing plays a crucial role in regulating and ensuring the quality of nursing practice in the state. With these appointments, Governor DeSantis aims to have a diverse and experienced team to oversee this important aspect of healthcare in Florida.
