Florida: Governor Ron DeSantis Makes Five Judicial Appointments

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. ~ TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Governor Ron DeSantis has announced the appointment of five new judges to serve in various courts across Florida. These appointments come as a result of the enactment of Senate Bill 2508, which created several judicial vacancies.

Jeremiah Hawkes, a resident of Tallahassee, has been appointed to serve as a Judge on the Second Judicial Circuit Court. Hawkes brings with him a wealth of legal experience, having worked as a Senior Counsel for Bass, Sox, & Mercer since 2022. Prior to that, he served as the General Counsel for the Florida Senate. He holds both a bachelor's degree and a juris doctor from Florida State University.

In another appointment for the Second Judicial Circuit Court, Carlos Rey has been selected to serve as a Judge on the Leon County Court. Rey has been serving as the General Counsel for the Florida Senate since 2023 and previously worked as a Senior Attorney for the same organization since 2020. He also has experience working as an Assistant General Counsel for the Florida Department of State. Like Hawkes, Rey is also an alumnus of Florida State University.

Moving on to Miami-Dade County, Judge Cristina Correa has been appointed to serve on the Eleventh Judicial Circuit Court. She brings with her extensive experience in the legal field, having served as a County Court Judge for Miami-Dade County since 2020 and previously working as an Assistant State Attorney in the same circuit. Correa earned her bachelor's degree from the University of Florida and her juris doctor from Florida International University.

Jose Rohaidy will also be joining Miami-Dade County's judiciary as he takes on his role as Judge on the Miami-Dade County Court. Rohaidy has been serving as an Assistant State Attorney in the Eleventh Judicial Circuit since 2019 and previously worked at Zumpano Patricios, P.A. He holds a bachelor's degree from the University of Florida and a juris doctor from St. Thomas University.

Lastly, Jennifer Levin has been appointed to serve as a Judge on the Miami-Dade County Court. Levin brings with her a wealth of experience in the legal field, having worked as a partner at Stone, Glass & Connolly, L.L.P since 2024 and previously serving as an Associate at Martinez Morales Law. She holds a bachelor's degree from Florida State University and a juris doctor from Florida International University.

These appointments come as Governor DeSantis continues to fulfill his promise of appointing qualified and experienced individuals to serve in Florida's judicial system. With these new judges in place, the state can continue to uphold justice and ensure fair trials for all its citizens.
