Governor Abbott Announces Brownwood Designated Music Friendly Texas Certified Community

~ Governor Greg Abbott has announced that the City of Brownwood has been designated as a Music Friendly Texas Certified Community by the Texas Music Office (TMO). This designation comes after the city completed a multi-step certification process. The Music Friendly Texas program, which was introduced by TMO in 2016, aims to promote music business-related economic development and job creation in cities and communities across Texas.

In a statement, Governor Abbott congratulated Brownwood on earning this prestigious designation. He also highlighted the significant impact of the music industry in Texas, which accounts for over 196,000 direct and indirect permanent jobs and generates more than $31 billion in annual economic activity statewide. The governor expressed his commitment to working with communities across the state to create more job opportunities and boost economic growth.

With this new designation, Brownwood joins the ranks of other Tourism Friendly Texas and Music Friendly Texas Certified Communities. Senator Phil King also congratulated the city on its achievement, noting that Brownwood has always been a hub for thriving Texas music. He also mentioned how the construction of the Brownwood Event Center has contributed to this success.

City of Brownwood Mayor Stephen E. Haynes expressed his excitement about being involved with TMO and earning the Music Friendly Texas Certified Community designation. He believes that this will help increase visibility of their music assets and enhance tourism and quality of life offerings throughout the community.

Deputy City Manager Ray Tipton also shared his enthusiasm for this new designation, stating that it will greatly benefit those involved in the local music scene by promoting coordination and collaboration. Eric Evans, Managing Director of Brownwood Lyric Theatre, echoed this sentiment by emphasizing how partnerships are crucial for rural communities like Brownwood.

The official Music Friendly Texas Community Certification Ceremony will be held on Saturday, December 13 during Brownwood's Yuletide Express: A Vintage Christmas Journey event. The ceremony will be cohosted by TMO and the City of Brownwood and will include city officials and community leaders. TMO Community Relations and Outreach Specialist Gini Mascorro will present the designation.

The Texas Music Office, which operates under the Governor's Texas Economic Development & Tourism Office, has been promoting the economic development of Texas music businesses, musicians, and communities since 1990. In addition to this, TMO has also been running the first and only statewide Music Friendly Community Program in the nation since 2016 with a network of over 80 certified partners across the state.
