Governor Abbott Appoints McCaslin As Texas State Historian

~ In a recent announcement, Governor Greg Abbott has appointed Richard B. "Rick" McCaslin, Ph.D. as the new Texas State Historian. McCaslin's term is set to expire on December 17, 2027.

As the State Historian, McCaslin will have the important responsibility of increasing public knowledge about the rich and diverse history of Texas. This includes promoting the teaching of Texas history in public schools and working with state leaders to raise awareness about the state's past.

McCaslin brings a wealth of experience to this role, having retired as a Professor of Texas History at the University of North Texas and currently serving as Director of Publications for the Texas State Historical Association (TSHA). He is also a Fellow of TSHA and has authored or edited twenty-one books, eight of which have received awards.

McCaslin holds an impressive academic background, with a Bachelor of Arts in History and Political Science from Delta State University, a Master of Arts in History from Louisiana State University, and a Doctor of Philosophy from The University of Texas at Austin.

With his extensive knowledge and passion for Texas history, McCaslin is well-equipped to serve as the state's historian and promote its rich heritage for years to come.
