Governor Abbott Deploys Additional Texas Emergency Management Personnel To Support Alaska Typhoon Recovery
TelAve News/10883517
~ In response to a request from the Alaska Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Management, Governor Greg Abbott has deployed additional Texas emergency management personnel to assist with ongoing typhoon recovery efforts in Alaska.
The devastating typhoons that hit Alaska in October have left many communities in need of assistance, and Governor Abbott has directed the Texas Division of Emergency Management (TDEM) to provide support. "Texas is answering the call to assist the state of Alaska in their ongoing recovery efforts," said Governor Abbott. "Stepping up to help those in need is key to the spirit of Texas, and our emergency personnel will help Alaskans affected by the October typhoon rebuild and move forward."
Under the direction of Governor Abbott, TDEM has deployed recovery and voluntary agency support personnel to assist with various tasks such as disaster case management coordination, unmet needs assessments, community recovery planning, and long-term recovery operations. This deployment builds on previous missions where Texas provided support to Alaska, including logistics, operations, and public assistance specialists following storm impacts.

This deployment is made possible through the Emergency Management Assistance Compact (EMAC), a state-to-state mutual aid system that allows states to share resources and provide assistance during disasters or emergencies. EMAC members can share resources from all disciplines, protect personnel who deploy, and be reimbursed for mission-related costs. For more information on EMAC, visit emacweb.org.
This deployment comes in addition to ongoing flood response and recovery operations in impacted communities across Texas following flooding that occurred in July. With this support from Texas emergency management personnel, Alaskans affected by the typhoons can receive much-needed aid as they work towards rebuilding their communities.
