~ In a move to protect Florida's natural and rural landscapes for future generations, Governor Ron DeSantis and the Florida Cabinet have approved the protection of over 21,500 acres of conservation and agricultural lands. This includes acquisitions through the Florida Forever and Rural and Family Lands Protection Program, with a total investment of $27.4 million.

The strategic acquisitions will not only strengthen Florida's conservation network but also support military readiness through Sentinel Landscapes. Additionally, they will preserve family-owned agricultural lands, ensuring that these vital areas remain intact.

Governor DeSantis emphasized the importance of preserving Florida's environment from the beginning of his administration. He stated, "By protecting the right lands in the right places, we're securing clean water, supporting military readiness, strengthening rural economies, and preserving the natural heritage that makes Florida a world-class destination."

Florida Commissioner of Agriculture Wilton Simpson also highlighted the significance of protecting agricultural and conservation lands for future generations. He stated, "Protecting Florida's agricultural and conservation lands means keeping it in the hands of the families who work them." Simpson expressed his pride in approving the protection of these lands alongside Governor DeSantis and fellow Cabinet members.

The approval of these acquisitions was met with support from Florida Department of Environmental Protection Secretary Alexis A. Lambert as well. She stated, "Florida Forever continues to deliver transformative conservation outcomes for our state." Lambert also acknowledged the ongoing support from Governor DeSantis and the Cabinet in safeguarding vital ecosystems, water resources, working lands, and other defining landscapes in Florida.
