HONOLULU - TelAve -- Hawaii employs nearly 10,000 security guards, and every one of them needs a state guard registration before working a single shift. Guard Card Hawaii: The Complete Guide to Getting Licensed, Hired, and Promoted in Island Security, now available on Amazon in Kindle and paperback, walks readers through that process from the first class to the first promotion.

Author Warren Pulley brings 40 years in security and law enforcement to the book and holds a current Hawaii guard card. The guide is written for first-time job seekers, veterans, military spouses, and former officers starting a second career — readers who need Hawaii-specific answers that general security books don't cover.

The book explains how to:

• Determine whether a job legally requires a guard card under HRS Chapter 463, and whether you are eligible
• Choose a Board-approved 8-hour course, get fingerprinted, and apply on MyPVL without delays
• Understand legal limits on citizen's arrest, use of force, trespass, and search
• Follow Hawaii's rules for armed and equipped posts, including HAR 16-97-17, county carry licenses, and Act 52 sensitive places
• Write incident reports that hold up and de-escalate situations with aloha
• Prepare for hurricanes, tsunamis, fires, and active threats
• Compare pay and requirements at hotels, hospitals, schools, airports, harbors, retail, nightlife, and federal posts on Oahu, Maui, the Big Island, Kauai, Molokai, and Lanai
• Get hired, move up, earn ASIS and IFPO certifications, and keep a registration current

Practical tools round out the guide: checklists, a sample incident report, a résumé template, a renewal calendar, 20 training scenarios, a contacts appendix, and a glossary.
