Idaho: Trump administration official Kristin Sleeper joins Gov. Little's staff as Policy Director

Boise, Idaho ~ Boise, Idaho - Governor Brad Little has announced the appointment of Kristin Sleeper as his new Policy Director, effective January 5, 2026. Sleeper, who currently serves as the Deputy Under Secretary for Natural Resources and Environment at the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), will bring a wealth of experience and expertise to her new role.
In his statement, Governor Little expressed his confidence in Sleeper's abilities and highlighted the positive impact she will have on Idaho's policies. "The addition of Kristin Sleeper as my Policy Director marks a strong step forward for Idaho," he said. "Her depth of experience in natural resources policy combined with her sound political and governing acumen will enhance our work on behalf of Idahoans."
As Policy Director, Sleeper will be an integral part of Governor Little's executive team, working closely with the Legislature, state agency directors, and other stakeholders to advance the Governor's priorities in natural resources and other policy areas.

Sleeper brings a diverse background to her new position. Prior to joining the USDA in January 2025, she worked for the U.S. Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources in Washington D.C. She also held positions at the U.S. House Committee on Agriculture and was the Director for Policy and Research at the National Alliance of Forest Owners, a national advocacy organization that promotes working forests. In addition, she has held roles in forestry and wildfire prevention and preparedness at the Montana Department of Natural Resources and worked for the U.S. Department of Interior.
Sleeper's impressive resume also includes being a Presidential Management Fellow at the U.S. Forest Service. She holds a Master of Environmental Management degree from Yale School of Forestry and Environmental Studies, as well as a Master of Public Administration degree from University of Montana. She earned her bachelor's degree in Environmental Biology and Zoology from Michigan State University.
Sleeper will be taking over the position from Jamie Neill, who recently left the Governor's Office to join the Idaho Dairymen's Association. With her extensive background and qualifications, Sleeper is well-equipped to continue the important work of advancing policies that benefit the people of Idaho.
