NEW YORK - TelAve -- The first-ever Conference on BIPOC Game Studies will take place from September 12–14, 2025, at The Strong National Museum of Play in Rochester, New York. This groundbreaking event will spotlight the contributions, challenges, and innovations of Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) in game design, culture and community.
BIPOC Games unites scholars, industry professionals, and enthusiasts to explore the intersection of gaming and BIPOC experiences worldwide. The conference features keynotes, peer-reviewed research, creative showcases, and collaborative panels, fostering dialogue and community among academics, creators, and players from more than 20 different institution.
The event is organized by Lindsay Grace, University of Miami author/editor of the book Black Game Studies and Stephen Jacobs, Rochester Institute of Technology, scholar in residence at the The Strong National Museum of Play and director of Open@RIT. The event is supported by sponsors including The John S. and James L. Knight Foundation, Empire State Development Fund, University of Miami School of Communication, and The Strong National Museum of Play. Partnerships with Play Story Press, the Digital Games Research Association, and the ACM Journal Games: Research and Practice will facilitate the dissemination of conference proceedings.

The program was developed through faculty at University of Southern California, DePaul University, Morgan State University, University of California-Irvine, University of Michigan and others.
