ST. LOUIS - TelAve -- The National Museum of Transportation will celebrate a milestone 100 years in the making on Wednesday, November 11, 2026, marking the official centennial anniversary of historic Route 66.
On November 11, 1926, Route 66 was officially commissioned as part of the newly established U.S. Highway System. One hundred years later, The National Museum of Transportation invites visitors to celebrate the road that became an enduring symbol of American travel, adventure, mobility, and freedom.
In honor of the 100th Anniversary of Route 66, the Museum will offer special "66" pricing for the day:
Visitors can also experience the Museum's special Route 66 exhibit, "Roads. River. Rooms. Reels."
The exhibit celebrates the many ways Route 66 shaped the American experience and the St. Louis region. Through automobiles, roadside travel, tourism, lodging, entertainment, and the communities connected by the legendary highway, the exhibit explores how Route 66 became much more than a road. It became part of American culture.

Two iconic features anchor the exhibit. Visitors will experience a stunning 26-foot model of the S.S. Admiral, beautifully restored by the skilled craftsmen of Sheet Metal Workers' Local 36, honoring the legendary riverboat that once defined river travel and entertainment in the Midwest.
The exhibit will also spotlight the beloved '66' Park-In Theatre on Watson Road, owned by the Wehrenberg Family of St. Louis, Missouri, a treasured symbol of drive-in movie culture and shared community memories along Route 66.
St. Louis holds a special place in the Route 66 story, serving as a gateway for generations of travelers heading west and bringing together transportation by road and river. The Museum's extensive transportation collection provides a fitting setting to commemorate a highway that changed how Americans traveled, worked, vacationed, and experienced the country.
Come celebrate 100 years of the Mother Road — and a century of memories made along Route 66.
