The connection between the authors is rooted in a multi-year mentor-student relationship. Shephard taught and mentored Desiray throughout her development as an academic standout, student organizer, and community leader. In addition to excelling in the classroom, Desiray took on game-day leadership roles at TCU football and soccer events, directed neighborhood cleanups, and helped revitalize a school garden.

Together, Shephard and Desiray developed a specialized movement and mindfulness program for learners with ADD, ADHD, and related learning differences.
