Spokane Police Respond to Fatal Stabbing in Northeast Spokane

~ Spokane police said officers responded to a reported stabbing at N. Hamilton Street and E. Mission Avenue shortly after 8:20 p.m. on Oct. 6, 2026.
Callers reported a fight and said one person had been stabbed, according to police. Officers found an adult man with multiple stab wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene despite lifesaving efforts by officers and medics. Police detained an adult male suspect.

The department's Major Crimes Unit took over the investigation. Police said probable cause was developed to charge 41-year-old Richard W. Brown with second-degree murder. He was booked into the Spokane County Jail.
Southbound Hamilton Street was closed between E. Indiana Avenue and E. Mission Avenue while officers interviewed witnesses and processed the scene, police said.
The Medical Examiner's Office will release the deceased man's identity and cause of death later.
