~ Spokane Police Department Launches New Online Platform for Community to Access Crime Data

The Spokane Police Department has announced the launch of a new online platform that will provide community members with access to crime statistics. This new program, which replaces the previous reporting method, features user-friendly dashboards that will be updated daily.

According to Officer Daniel Strassenberg, the department's Public Information Officer, this new public-facing crime dashboard is a significant step towards promoting transparency and building trust with the community. "We aim to provide our community with clear, timely, and accessible information about public safety issues," said Strassenberg.

Chief Kevin Hall also expressed his enthusiasm for this new initiative, stating that it is designed to promote transparency, strengthen community trust, and enhance accountability. "By offering accessible, near-real-time data on crime trends and enforcement activity, these dashboards empower the Spokane community to stay informed and engaged," said Chief Hall.

Annelise Pietenpol, Director of Crime Strategies & Analysis at the Spokane Police Department, emphasized the importance of collaboration and shared responsibility for public safety. "We want our community to have the same access to information that informs our own operational decisions," said Pietenpol. "These tools help everyone engage more deeply in public safety."

The department's commitment to modern, data-driven policing and transparent reporting under the FBI's National Incident-Based Reporting System (NIBRS) is reflected in the launch of this dashboard. Shawna Ernst, Director of Analytics, Research, and Technology at SPD stated that they welcome feedback and questions from the community at publictransparency@spokanepolice.org.

The new online platform includes a variety of data points such as crime trends and enforcement activity. It also features related images such as a Public Data Dashboard. The department hopes that this initiative will not only provide valuable information but also encourage greater collaboration between law enforcement and residents in keeping their city safe.

Community members can access the new program online and are encouraged to provide feedback and ask questions. The Spokane Police Department is committed to expanding access to meaningful data in the future, as they continue their efforts towards transparency and building trust with the community.
