~ Spokane, WA - The City of Spokane's 2025 early construction season is in full swing, but motorists can expect less significant traffic impacts compared to previous years. According to Kirstin Davis, the Communications Manager for the city, drivers are urged to plan ahead, allow for extra time, and look for detours as necessary.

Davis also emphasized the importance of slowing down for everyone's safety and making an extra effort to support businesses that may be impacted by the ongoing projects. To stay updated on current obstructions affecting drivers in the city, residents can visit the construction webpage.

One of the major projects currently underway is a grind and overlay project on Sunset Blvd. between S. Cannon St. in Browne's Addition and S. Government Way in the West Hills neighborhood. This project is expected to start on Monday morning, May 12 and be completed by Tuesday, May 27.

Drivers can expect lane reductions, flaggers, and slowdowns when traveling east and west on W. Sunset Blvd. between S. Cannon St. and S. Government Way just west of downtown Spokane. Those who do not need to access this area are encouraged to use alternate routes such as I-90 or W. Riverside Ave.

Another project that will impact traffic is the Spokane Safe Streets for All Project at 13th Ave. at S. Grand Blvd., just south of Manito Park. This traffic calming project includes pedestrian improvements and a pedestrian rapid flashing beacon and is expected to begin on Monday, May 12 and be completed by Tuesday, May 20.

During this time, 13th Ave will be closed between Grand Blvd. and Division St., while S.Grand Blvd at 13th Ave will have lane reductions at the intersection causing slow downs for drivers traveling north and south.

The third project currently underway is located at Cedar St.at 12th Ave., where a traffic calming project is being implemented including closing Cedar St. to northbound traffic at 12th Ave., installing a pedestrian refuge island with rapid flashing beacon, and other pedestrian safety items. This project is expected to begin on Tuesday, May 13 and be completed by Tuesday, June 3.

Drivers can expect lane reductions and slow downs when traveling north and south on Cedar St. between 13th Ave. and 11th Ave., while 12th Ave will be closed between Adams St. and Walnut St.

To help residents navigate these construction projects, the city has provided maps for each project on their website. These include the Sunset Blvd. Grind and Overlay Map, the 13th Ave. at S.Grand Blvd.Traffic Calming Map, and the Cedar St.at 12th Ave.Traffic Calming Map.

As always, drivers are reminded to exercise caution when traveling through construction zones for their own safety as well as the safety of those working on these necessary projects.
