Texas: Governor Abbott Appoints Four To University Of Houston System Board Of Regents

~ Houston, TX- Governor Greg Abbott has recently announced the appointment of four individuals to the University of Houston (UH) System Board of Regents. Tommy Lucas, O.D., Lynden Rose, Alonzo Cantu, and Bryan Clark have been selected to serve on the board for terms set to expire in 2029 and 2031.

Tommy Lucas, O.D., a resident of Harker Heights, brings a wealth of experience to the board as the co-founder and president of VIEW Optometry. He is also a former president of the Texas Optometric Association and a member of the American Optometric Association. In addition, Lucas is a co-founder and board member of Elevate Digital Optics. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Biology and Chemistry from Baylor University and a Doctor of Optometry from UH College of Optometry.

Lynden Rose, an attorney from Houston, has been appointed as well. He currently serves as Of Counsel with HooverSlovacek LLP and is also the vice chairman of the Harris County Houston Sports Authority Board. Rose's impressive resume also includes being a Director on the Board for TDECU and serving as a trustee for the College of Biblical Studies. He was also appointed by the Bahamas Ministry of Foreign Affairs as Honorary Counsul General to Houston, Texas and the Southwest Region of the United States. Rose received his Bachelor of Science in Political Science from UH and his Juris Doctor from UH Law School.

Alonzo Cantu, CEO and president of Cantu Construction & Development Company in McAllen, has been reappointed to serve on the board. He is also known for his role as chairman at Lone Star National Bank and as a board member at DHR Health. Cantu is actively involved in his community as chairman and founder of Valley Alliance for Mentors for Opportunities and Scholarships (VAMOS) and serves on The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley Foundation Board. He holds a Bachelor of Business Administration in Finance from UH.

Bryan Clark, a certified public accountant (CPA) from Friendswood, has been newly appointed to the board. He currently serves as a principal at Doeren Mayhew and is a member of the American Institute of CPA's and the Texas Society of CPA's. Clark is also involved in his local community as a connect group director at Sagemont Church and is the former chairman of Americans United for Life. He received his Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting and Marketing from UH.

The University of Houston System Board of Regents plays a crucial role in overseeing the operations and policies of the university system. With these four individuals joining the board, Governor Abbott has ensured that it will continue to be led by experienced and dedicated individuals who are committed to the success of UH. Their terms will expire in 2029 and 2031, respectively.
