Texas: Governor Abbott Meets With U.S. Secretary Of The Air Force

~ In a meeting held at the Governor's Mansion, Governor Greg Abbott and U.S. Secretary of the Air Force Troy E. Meink discussed ways in which the State of Texas can continue to support Air Force bases and enhance military value and efficiencies. The meeting was also attended by Gwen Griffin, Chair of the Texas Space Commission, State Representative Greg Bonnen, and Lieutenant General Douglas A. Schiess of the U.S. Space Force.
During the meeting, the leaders highlighted Texas' significant role in national defense with multiple major Air Force installations located within its borders. These bases play a crucial role in training and readiness for the Air Force.

The meeting also marked an important announcement as a new 10-year Partnership Intermediary Agreement worth up to $300 million was signed between the Texas Space Commission, U.S. Air Force Research Laboratory, and United States Space Force. This agreement designates the Space Commission as a neutral broker to facilitate technology transfer, promote collaboration among government, industry, and academia, and advance critical space capabilities while developing a skilled workforce to maintain American leadership in space.
Governor Abbott emphasized that Texas remains a leader in space and is committed to strengthening its partnership with both the U.S. Air Force and Space Force. The state is determined to expand missions and enhance capabilities that serve not only Texas but also the nation.
