Donations and the charitable part of membership fees are tax-deductible to the extent permitted by law. From tax year 2026, donors who do not itemize can deduct up to $1,000 in cash gifts. Every gift keeps worksheets, websites, and apps free.

SARASOTA, Fla. - TelAve -- The American Dyslexia Association (ADA), a nonprofit organization since 2008, reminds supporters that it is a 501(c)(3) public charity (EIN 26-3530084). The IRS has confirmed this status in a determination letter, as a public charity under Section 509(a)(2). Donations and the charitable part of membership fees are tax-deductible to the extent permitted by law.

New this year, donors who take the standard deduction can benefit as well. "Beginning with tax year 2026, if you do not itemize, you may deduct up to $1,000 ($2,000 if filing jointly) of your cash contributions to certain qualified organizations," the IRS states. The new rule covers cash gifts, including card and PayPal payments, but not gifts of property or donor-advised funds. Donors should ask a tax professional about their personal situation.

The need is large. The International Dyslexia Association estimates that 15 to 20 percent of the population show some symptoms of dyslexia. Most families look for help at home first, long before they find a trained specialist.

That is where ADA's free material comes in. The association gives away 1,593 printable worksheets for training visual, auditory, and spatial skills, plus symptom training for dyslexia and dyscalculia, free audio training, and links to more than a dozen practice websites. Ten apps from its circle are free in the App Store, with no ads, no in-app purchases, and no sign-up. All material follows the AFS-Method developed by dyslexia researcher Dr. Astrid Kopp-Duller, which trains attention, sensory perceptions, and the symptoms in reading, spelling, writing, and/or calculating together.

"Every worksheet, game, and app we give away is paid for by people who believe a child should not have to wait for help," said Dr. Elsa Palmer, Director of Information and Member Services at the American Dyslexia Association. "With the new rule for 2026, even a small gift counts at tax time, and it goes straight into free help for families."
