Colorado was recently named the Best State for Education by U.S. News & World Report, moving up from No. 3 in 2025, according to the release.

The state attributed its progress to six areas: universal preschool and free full-day kindergarten; expanded school choice; increased K-12 funding; efforts to improve measurable outcomes; expanded tutoring, summer programs and after-school care; and greater access to credentials, apprenticeships and work-based learning.

The release said 40% of Colorado students attend a school they choose and that per-pupil funding has increased by $3,276. It also cited the READ Act and the governor's Let's Get Ready initiative as part of the state's focus on student outcomes.
