Highland publishes in Journal of Big Data on IMAS – an AI-Powered innovation for precision neurological care

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - TelAve -- Highland Instruments is proud to announce the publication of a study in Journal of Big Data by Dr. Laura Dipietro, Chief Technology Officer, and Dr. Tim Wagner, Chief Scientific Officer. The study showcases how advanced motion analysis, Big Data, and Artificial Intelligence (AI) can reshape objective symptom assessment and precision treatment for Parkinson's Disease. Drs. Uri Eden, Seth Elkin-Frankston, Mirret M. El-Hagrassy, Deniz Doruk Camsari, Ciro Ramos-Estebanez, and Felipe Fregni all contributed to the study.

The study introduces Highland's Integrated Motion Analysis Suite (IMAS), an innovative platform that combines multimodal sensor technology, wearables, machine learning, and traditional clinical assessments to provide deeper insights and objective symptom assessment into neurological disorders. In a cohort of 50 Parkinson's patients, IMAS demonstrated the ability to:
  • Deliver more objective, multi-dimensional assessments compared to traditional methods like the Unified Parkinson's Disease Rating Scale (UPDRS).
  • Predict disease severity using AI-driven models.
  • Identify meaningful patient clusters, paving the way for precision treatment.
"This study - Integrating Big Data, Artificial Intelligence, and motion analysis for emerging precision medicine applications in Parkinson's Disease (https://journalofbigdata.springeropen.com/articles/10.1186/s40537-024-01023-3) - highlights the potential of combining modern sensing technologies and AI to enhance clinical decision-making," said Dr. Dipietro. "IMAS provides clinicians with a more detailed, objective view of patient symptoms, which could ultimately enable precision treatment, streamlining care and potentially improving outcomes."
