JET COMPANION Expands Commercial Airline Stretcher Transportation Across Canada and Internationally
TelAve News/10908872
EDMONTON, Alberta - TelAve -- When a patient is unable to sit upright for a commercial flight, returning home or travelling to a long-term care facility can become a complex logistical challenge. JET COMPANION coordinates commercial airline stretcher services for medically appropriate patients, helping families and healthcare providers arrange long-distance patient transportation across Canada and internationally.
Through partnerships with a carefully selected group of airlines, JET COMPANION organizes commercial airline stretcher transfers through five Canadian hubs: Vancouver, Edmonton, Calgary, Montreal and Toronto. These locations provide key departure and arrival points for eligible patients travelling between Canada and supported international destinations.
An Alternative to Private Air Ambulance Transportation
Commercial airline stretcher service can offer an alternative to a dedicated air ambulance for patients who cannot remain seated during a flight but may be medically stable enough to travel on a scheduled commercial aircraft.
Depending on the patient's condition, destination and airline requirements, this service may be considered for medical repatriation, international patient transfers, returns home following hospitalization, or transportation to a long-term care facility.

Commercial airline stretcher transportation generally costs more than a Business Class ticket but can be less expensive than chartering a private air ambulance. The appropriate option depends on the patient's medical needs, the level of care required, route availability and the arrangements necessary to complete the transfer.
"Medical transportation is about more than getting a patient from one airport to another," explains the JET COMPANION approach. "Every journey requires careful assessment, coordination and attention to the patient's individual circumstances. Our goal is to help reunite people with their families while arranging transportation that is appropriate for their medical needs."
Five Canadian Hubs Support Long-Distance Patient Transfers
JET COMPANION coordinates airline stretcher transportation through five major Canadian hubs:
Patients travelling from smaller communities may require additional ground or air ambulance transportation to reach a suitable departure hub. For example, patients from Saskatchewan, British Columbia, Alberta and communities near Jasper or Banff may need to travel to Edmonton, Calgary or Vancouver before boarding an international commercial flight.

The complete journey may involve coordination between hospitals, ground ambulance providers, airlines, medical crews, receiving facilities and family members. Depending on the patient's needs, ground transportation may be arranged at both ends to support a bed-to-bed transfer.
Availability varies by route. Commercial airline stretcher service is not offered on every airline or to every destination, and some regions may not be accessible through the service.
